I finished knitting the little Tide Cardigan by Louisa Harding. I don't know what happened. I followed the instructions to the "T" and when I finished everything but the button bands and sewing in the sleeves----I looked twice and the sleeves don't match the body of the sweater. I have gone over all the things I did when making it, and everything adds up the way it is suppose to----but look------the sleeve holes are too big for the finished sleeves. I don't know the answer. I knit with the same needles, used the same yarn, knit the exact number of rows according to the pattern-----and the sleeves are too short or the holes are too big---however you want to look at it. It's a darling pattern and I loved knitting it up, but something is seriously wrong somewhere------ Normally I would toss it and forget about it, but I love this little sweater. Guess I'll just have to rip it all back, wash the yarn, and start over. :(
Here's a little trivia for you. John does not like to be late for anything. I, on the other hand, will wait until 15 minutes before time to go somewhere and get there right on time. When I was to meet Wendy at Knit Happens, we were to meet shortly after 12:00. John drove me up there. We left the hotel (about 4 blocks away) at 11:00. The shop didn't even open until 12:00. We got there and---surprise! surprise! the shop was closed. We drove around Olde Towne for an hour. This is all leading up to something, believe me----
Today, John had a doctor's appointment. We had to be there at 2:30 to fill out the paperwork and he was to be seen at 3:00. We left the house at 1:15. We got to the office by 1:30. The girl said "you know your appointment isn't until 3:00?". We sat there and filled out the paperwork which took 10 minutes to complete. We did not leave the office until 5:00.
Well, I have finally wised up----I took my knitting with me this time and sat in the lobby and started this little sweater for Maggie. I'm almost down to where I start the sleeves. It is made with the yarn I bought at Knit Happens. It is three strands of mercerized cotton twisted together (Classic Elite Flash Bee Bale) I knit until I ran out of yarn. (I did find a knot--isn't that aggrevating--- a little past the neck ribbing--but just at the right time---on the edge). Anyway, I decided to knit a little sweater from the neck down. I've tweaked a pattern from Top Down for Toddlers by Deb and Lynda Gemmell. I wanted just a plain neck band and all of their cardigans have collars. I'm going to add a button band when I finish rather than guess where I should put the buttons. Here's what it looks like so far. The colors are much brighter than shown below.
Here's a close up of the sleeve increases (see the beautiful pink, green and white). I decided to do a little eyelet on either side just to make it a little interesting--which is what the Gemmell's do on most of their patterns.
I wish I had more pictures to show you, but I want to tell you of a little incident that happened here yesterday morning. You see the windows in this next photo? This is the view I have while sitting at my computer. I have a little desk set up in "Little" John's room. When the door is open, it overlooks the front of the house. You see the last window?
I was sitting at the computer and happened to look up and out the window and what to my wondering eyes did appear but-----a BIG BLACK BEAR. He was huge!!!!! The garbage truck had just come up to pick up the garbage and the can was still outside the garage doors (to the right of the last window). I guess the bear was looking for food. John was in the kitchen and I yelled at him to look at the bear, which I thought had gone into the garage to eat the dog's food. I must have scared it and when John finally made it outside, the bear was gone. John got in the car which was parked outside and drove around the house and down the driveway. He saw the bear down by the fence. The bear did manage to climb up into one of our cherry trees and break out two limbs and ate all the cherries (they do that every spring). There's always something going on at the top of our mountain.
Have a nice weekend everyone!

First of all I love the color of both sweaters! Maggies is going to turn out really cute! Second....wow, the bear came that close to the house! That's pretty cool! I love you and I hope you have a really nice weekend, I'm sure I will talk to you at some point this weekend!
Love,
Ang

I have knit the Tide sweater before. Are you sure that you knit the correct size for the sleeves, and not a smaller size than the body is. The other sweater looks lovely too.

Holy Smokes! A black bear- yikes! Glad you were safely inside the house. Maybe you don't have to re-knit the entire Tide sweater- just the sleeves? Good luck!

Oh that's too bad about the sweater. At least it's small and not an adult size if you have to rip. I love the pink/green colorway you are knitting with now!
That's scary seeing a bear in your yard. Glad you were inside at the time!!
