What's a road trip without a trip to the local yarn shop!

As you all know by now, John and I drove up to Alicia and Ryan's to help them celebrate Maggie's 1st birthday.  They just moved up to Alexandria, VA the first of February.  Alicia has been looking out for me.  They are living in Old Town Alexandria within walking distance of shopping galore.   Their house is so nice---a lot of stairs, but a very nice house none the less.  They are enjoying being able to have things within walking distance.  Both Alicia and Ryan have lost weight since coming up here---all the walking and the stairs ;)

Alicia called me last week and told me she found a knitting shop just within walking distance of her house.  The minute she told me the name of the shop, I knew which one she was talking about-----Knit Happens---.  Wendy use to speak of the shop quite often when it first opened a year or so ago (can't remember).   But I haven't seen her mention it in a long time.  But, that's the shop that Alicia and I walked up to today.  They were having a fantastic sale.  Some yarn was 90% off.  I have so much yarn at home, but I did need some "0" double point needles and Alicia found some sock yarn that she wanted me to knit up for her.

It was a nice day for a walk, not too cold, so  we packed Maggie up in the stroller and had a girls afternoon out.  "Little" John was taking his nap, Ryan was doing some work in his office, and "Big" John went back to the hotel to do a little carving.

We have had so much fun up here.  Friday night we went to eat at The Chart House (Seafood), last night Alicia prepared a wonderful meal for us at her house, and tonight we are going to The Warf (seafood).

My road trip knitting has been for the May Day Secret Sock Swap.  I'm knitting my secret pal a pair of socks using Fleece Artist washable merino wool and Wendy's Double Eyelet sock pattern.  I love this pattern and have made it once before.  Just thought it was the perfect pattern for my secret pal.  I have gotten to the gusset of the first sock.  It's working up pretty fast even though I'm using size 0 double points.

We'll be heading home in the morning, so I'll get some more knitting done on the way.  Oh, I almost forgot.  I also brought along my Noro Blossom cardigan that I've been working on.  I've finished all the knitting, put in the sleeves last night, and have the sides to sew up, find buttons, and I'll be all finished.  I lengthened the cardigan in the sleeves and the body.  It is a perfect fit.  I'm so excited.  Can't wait to get it finished so I can wear it.

Yeah - how fun is that. The sock looks great.

You should have told me you were here -- I would have come down and met you at Knit Happens!

That is a nice yarn shop. I visited there when my daughter lived in VA.

You are far along on your swap socks! They look great.

What a fun trip and a Happy Birthday to Maggie!
Beautiful socks too.
