I have decided to add a new item to be posted on a weekly basis (once a week). I'm going to post one of my favorite recipes every Friday, just for the fun of it.
Today's recipe that I would like to share with you is one of the girls favorites. In fact, when they went off to college, it is the first thing they asked me to make up for them. They had microwaves in their rooms, so it was very easy for them to whip this up on those cold winter nights. What's so nice about it is that if you have a yearning for hot chocolate late one evening and there is no milk in the house--wahla
homemade instant hot chocolate mix. This is really the best instant mix I have ever had and I can't take the credit because I got it from an old TV show many years ago. It is very creamy and taste like it was made with fresh milk.
HOT CHOCOLATE MIX:
1 8 qt box Carnations Powdered Milk (or 8 1-qt packets)
1 small jar of Cremora or Coffeemate
1 box 10x powdered sugar
1 30-oz box Nestle's Nesquik Chocolate
Mix all ingredients in a large mixing bowl until thoroughly mixed. Spoon into a large storage container.
When you are ready for a cup of hot chocolate, heat a cup of water in the microwave on high for from 1 - 2 minutes. Take out of the microwave and add 2 heaping tablespoons of mix. Stir until dissolved and top with marshmellows.
Enjoy!

This also makes great teacher gifts at Christmas. Just put some mix in a decorated quart jar. Type a card with the recipe and directions and attach with a decorative ribbon. I have cut a circle of fabric (pink the edges so there is no sewing) larger than the jar lid, put this on top of the jar and then screw the ring on.
Then I used a mailing label and designed a label to go on the side of the jar.
P.S. TO THE ABOVE ENTRY
I just had a wonderful idea: *light bulb going off* If each of you reading this (and get this out to other bloggers as well) will send me (via e-mail, please specify in the subject line that it is for the "Bloggers Favorite Recipes") your favorite recipes, hints--both knitting and cooking, or how to's (if you want to attach a picture for the book of either yourself or your prepared recipe or both that would be great too), I'll compile a book of "Bloggers Favorite Recipes". When I get enough, I'll put together the book and send it out to all of you at no cost to you. This will be my RAOK to you all. You will have to submit your snail mail address to me so that I can send you your book. Big project, but it would be fun! How about it? Let me know, ok? Oh, I'm excited about this if it gets off the ground!

Hot chocolate season is right around the corner, isn't it? Boy, my kids sure do love that stuff, too. I'll definitely be mixing up a batch. Thanks! I'll be looking forward to future recipe features -- great idea!

Hi Elizabeth! Nice idea. I'll have to think...I have so many "favorite" recipes -- and also, it seems that my best cooking is without a recipe. But I'll try to think of something that is favorite-recipe-book worthy and get back to you!

Your hot chocolate recipe looks quite similar to my mom's. As with your girls, this was an instant comfort food for me in the dorms...even now!
